Jaki White-Marshall, 17, of Coatesville, was arrested and is set to be charged as an adult for allegedly firing at a bus full of high school students, the Chester County District Attorney revealed on Friday, Oct. 11, the day following the incident, as Daily Voice previously reported.

Two additional individuals, Gabriel Johnson, 17, and Jose Medina, 20, both of Coatesville, have since been arrested in connection with the shooting, officials announced in an updated release.

The shooting occurred around 2:29 p.m. on Thursday, in the 300 block of Charles Street near Hope Avenue and Madison Street, according to both the Coatesville Area School District and the DA. White-Marshall was part of a group of four masked individuals who approached the school bus, investigators said. Surveillance footage obtained by detectives showed four males walking through the intersection; two began firing down the street, striking the bus. Johnson was identified as firing six shots at the bus, while Medina was present with him during the incident.

Two of those bullets struck the bus: one entered through the windshield, while the other hit the front grill. Thankfully, no one on the bus, including students and the driver, sustained injuries.

“Students on the bus are safe, as is the driver, and police are on the scene. We are extremely grateful for the calm reaction of our driver and the support of police,” district officials said.

Authorities shared that they believe the attack was targeted, stemming from a personal feud. As a precaution following the shooting, the district canceled Thursday night’s football game against Downingtown East High School and declared Friday a flexible/remote learning day. The district noted that an increased police presence would be on campus when in-person learning resumed.

“No child should be subjected to gunfire on a school bus. This is an active, high-priority investigation,” Coatesville Police Chief Jack Lauffer and Chester County District Attorney Christopher L. de Barrena-Sarobe stated in a joint release.

District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe emphasized, “This is not the end of our investigation. We will continue to work towards arresting and convicting everyone involved in shooting at this school bus.”

The Chester County Detectives and the Coatesville City Police Department are leading the investigation, with Assistant District Attorney Annie Yoskoski assigned to prosecute the case.
